The OTTE A R Foundation, in partnership with enjuba, proudly hosted a transformative training session for 17 teachers from 11 schools across Tororo District. These educators were selected as club leaders for the newly launched Spelling Bee program, which aims to enrich classroom learning through literacy and character development.
This was more than just a training on how to conduct Spelling Bees. Teachers engaged in sessions on self-awareness, value systems, literacy pedagogy, and teacher effectiveness. The objective: equip educators not just to teach, but to inspire.
The Journey Continues: District and National Competitions Ahead
Following this foundational training, OTTEAR and enjuba will host a District Spelling Bee, bringing together 20 students from each participating school. The top 20 students from this competition will advance to represent Tororo at the National Spelling Bee in Kampala.
This initiative responds to an urgent need. Tororo Municipality ranked 66th in the last national Primary Leaving Examinations, far behind districts in Western and Central Uganda. The Spelling Bee program aims to close this gap by strengthening reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills, laying a strong foundation for academic success.
Opportunities Beyond the Classroom
The impact doesn’t stop at the district level.
- The top three national performers will earn a spot in the Africa Spelling Bee, gaining exposure on a continental stage.
- The top 20 students nationally will join the enjuba Fellows Program, receiving ongoing mentorship and development to become world-class leaders and communicators.
